Liberia One Health Platform Rallies Stakeholders Against Antimicrobial Resistance
Paynesville, April 8, 2025 — Under the resounding theme “Educate, Advocate, Act Now!”, the Liberia One Health Platform today hosted a major Stakeholders Awareness Engagement on the prevention and control of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). Held at the Golden Gate Hotel in Paynesville, the event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders united by a shared commitment to combat one of the most pressing global health threats.

Organized by the One Health AMR Technical Working Group and funded by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the one-day event served as a platform for government ministries, development partners, civil society, and students to engage in knowledge sharing and advocacy on AMR.

Key participating institutions included the Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), Liberia Standards Authority (LISA), and the National Fisheries & Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA). International and regional partners such as Africa CDC, U.S. CDC, World Health Organization (WHO), and several local civil society organizations – including Consummate Health & Sanitation and Women Well-Being Initiative Liberia – also took part.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Joseph Edor reaffirmed Africa CDC’s continued commitment to supporting AMR prevention through Liberia’s One Health initiatives.

His remarks were echoed by Advertus Nyan Mianah, One Health Coordinator, who praised the active participation of stakeholders and the growing interest of young people, particularly students, in the One Health approach.
The event featured technical presentations from NaFAA, LISA and the EPA, highlighting sector-specific efforts to mitigate AMR risks. The engagement culminated with a powerful keynote address by Bode Ireti Shobayo, Public Health Specialist at NPHIL, who emphasized the need for concerted and sustained action in the fight against AMR.

With all voices echoing a unified call to action, the event marked another important step in building cross-sectoral collaboration and raising national awareness on AMR. Through a coordinated One Health approach, Liberia is strengthening its defense against AMR – ensuring a healthier, safer future for all.
Together, we educate, advocate, and act – to protect lives and preserve the effectiveness of life-saving treatments.
